Duke Colley: Controlling the Roots

We have a 4 year old Paulownia in our back yard. It is the most perfect of all the Paulownias we have planted. The problem is the main root is headed directly towards our home. We have a slab foundation. The tree is about 20 feet from the house but the root is now 5 feet from the foundation.

We have already had one destroy our concrete driveway which cost us several thousand dollars to remedy. We don't want to repeat that experience.

Is there any way to stop this root? Anything to change it's direction? We really don't want to kill this perfect tree but can't afford it to get in our foundation.
